SNRGrade™ is a Quality of User Experience (QoE) metric that enables devices to make intelligent connectivity decisions. SNRGrade™ is the first metric that allows the device to compare the QoE between disparate networks, such as 3G, WiFi, LTE and WiMAX.

This metric enables mobile network operators to better manage the explosive growth in data traffic on their networks by offloading traffic from cellular to WiFi networks when possible while ensuring a consistent user experience.

With the exponential growth in converged devices such as smartphones, netbooks and tablets, operators are facing a huge amount of network congestion which has become a very big problem for them. Operators are struggling to provide customers with good service, within the current infrastructure. Amongst alternate solutions, they are looking for a way to offload traffic onto WiFi hot spots, while continuing to give consumers the best possible service. In our view, reliance solely on network QoS parameters or RSSI does not provide operators with sufficient information to manage this offload, as these indicators do not convey information about the actual user experience. What is QoE? It’s the user’s perception of how usable the device and services are. It’s made of up of several components including: signal strength; end-to-end link quality and bandwidth; battery life; cost of connectivity; application choices; user’s preferences; and the ability to achieve multiple connections based on user need.
