A 7-member start up in the big big world of 3GSM (Barcelona, 3GSM, February 2007)

3GSM Barcelona 2007. For all of us involved with Barcelona 2007 it is referred to as THAT trip. Sudipta had challenged the technical team to get the seamless handover of a voice call between GSM and WLAN, using the SNRLabs Convergence Manager, by 3GSM 2007, and the engineers lived up to the challenge.

We had an invitation from Texas Instruments to jointly put up our demonstration in TI exhibition space, a chance that we are greatly thankful for! Since it was almost January before we were sure that we would have everything about the demo done in time, we were looking for flights and hotels almost at the last moment. Even though such logistics are much easier since the event moved from Cannes to Barcelona, flights and hotels still get quite expensive close to 3GSM week. After a lot of time on the internet travel sites, we found what we needed – the hotel that we stayed at eventually was quite a find, tucked away in a little street about 5km away from the conference arena.

Once we had the tickets, hotel and registration done we started worrying about how to transport our considerable amount of equipment safely to Barcelona. The guys got really innovative and we came up with a plan so that we could transport all of it without checking in any of the “delicate” pieces.

For those who have not seen the first day of a 3GSM show, it is an awe inspiring sight, so many people from so many countries. We set up our demonstration in space provided by TI, after conquering our usual share of demo demons. It was a grueling week as we were on our feet almost constantly. It was also an exciting time for us, being out there in front of potential customers and partners for the first time. We will carry the lessons learnt from Barcelona 2007 in our hearts and mind as we take SNRLabs every step further.
